WORLD CONTINENCE WEEK
June 22-28, 2015

This week is World Continence Week! A whole week aimed at making people more aware of what continence is, what problems are associated with it and what can be done about it! So this week we will be posting up a series of informational posts befitting to a week about continence!

The theme this year is “Tell Someone Who Cares” and is aimed at getting people who may have continence issues or questions to talk about it.

The key messages from the Continence Foundation are that bladder and bowel control issues affect 1 in 4 people and they do not get better on their own nor are they a natural part of aging or childbirth. The best news is that bladder and bowel control issues CAN be treated, better managed or even cured! The first step to getting help is talking about it and who better to do that than a trained professional who can help you manage any issues that you may be experiencing.

What is incontinence? A lot of people think that being incontinent means that you completely wet yourself involuntary but this is not true. Incontinence is any loss of urine from the bladder – even if it’s just a tiny bit when you laugh, cough or sneeze.

If you’re uncomfortable with talking about it you can phone the continence hotline 1800 33 00 66 for confidential advice to get you started otherwise, come in to Vital Core Physiotherapy and speak to Tory or Beck – our women’s health physiotherapists who are experienced in the area of continence and women’s health and whom can help get you back on track!
